Richard Overton, born on May 11, 1906, was the oldest man in the United States and the oldest living World War 2 veteran. He passed away on December 27th, at the age of 112. Richard Overton died after being hospitalized with pneumonia.
In 2013, he was honored by President Barack Obama and he resided in Austin, Texas, until his death. Richard Overton enlisted into the U.S. military on September 3, 1940 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Serving in the South Pacific from 1940 through 1945, including stops in Hawaii, Guam, Palau and Iwo Jima with the 1887th Engineer Aviation Battalion. He left the U.S. Army in October 1945 as a technician fifth grade.
On July 1, 2018, Richard Overton became a victim of identity theft and had several hundreds of thousands dollars stolen. His family announced a few days later that the Bank of America restored the funds to his account.
